Become an Orton-Gillingham Tutor
Below are the requirements for Literacy Nassau's Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA) associate-level training course and practicum.

Candidates complete a week-long initial 30-hour course, TBD, via a face-to-face live training at our tutoring center in Wantagh.

After completion, we will work to match each candidate with an appropriate student for practicum work.

Candidates must complete a supervised, 100-hour practicum with a student who has dyslexia. Expect the practicum to begin in September and end in June.

Each candidate must create space in his/her personal schedule during after-school, evening, and/or weekend hours to consistently meet with a student 3 times a week at our facility in Wantagh for the unpaid practicum.

Candidates must complete 10 video observations.

Candidates will be expected to create lesson plans for every tutoring session.

Candidates must attend 30 additional hours of trainings which will occur on 3 mandatory weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) during the school year. The entire associate-level course is 60 hours of instruction.

Candidates will also be expected to complete all mandatory readings from the Orton-Gillingham (OGA) Associate Level Reading List and write/submit a brief report on each reading. Expect to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours a week on OG (including tutoring and lesson planning).

Upon completion of all requirements, candidates will be expected to complete and submit an online application directly to the OGA.
