OUR PROGRAMS

Literacy Nassau recruits and trains volunteers who provide tutoring to adults.  The uniqueness of our programs is the learner-centered approach our tutors take with students.

Our Basic Literacy program concentrates on improving reading and writing skills for adults who read below a 6th grade level.  Students meet one to one with a tutor.

Our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs focus on listening and speaking English for non-native English speakers.  These learners meet one to one or in small groups.  Supplemental conversation circles meet to provide opportunities for English language learners to practice their conversational English.

What's New
Our new computer lab is now complete and ready for tutor/student use. Please call the office in advance to reserve a computer.
Thematic Mother’s Circles provides yet another opportunity for English language learners to practice English discussing a subject they all have in common – being a mother.

Coming Soon...

Telephone Conversation Partners will give our English language learners another opportunity to practice speaking English on the telephone.
Basic Literacy students will also be provided an opportunity to meet in a group setting.  Modules are being developed addressing various topics to assist our learners in strengthening their literacy skills.
